In the International Opera Studio the Staatstheater Nürnberg is liaising with the Nuremberg University of Music to award grants to young graduates of courses in singing and piano accompaniment. Students receive a supplementary course of hands-on training at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and are enrolled on the University’s “Master in International Opera Studio” programme majoring in singing or piano accompaniment.
At the University members of the Nuremberg International Opera Studio also take supplementary modules (singing lessons, piano accompaniment, dramaturgy/history of opera) and there are options aimed at enhancing levels of professionalism, which include stage techniques, acting, voice training and movement/dance/physical conditioning. Attendance at masterclasses is also possible.
Stipendiaries are expected to collaborate on a university production and may feature in the cast of repertoire works currently being mounted by the Staatstheater. Training also touches on the process of applying and auditioning for roles and theatre and contractual law/organisation
