The 6th Philharmonic Concert has a series of romantic fairy tales in store: Ravel’s vibrant orchestral work tells of Sleeping Beauty, Thumbling, and the Beauty and the Beast. Richard Strauss took inspiration from the pranks of Till Eulenspiegel for his symphonic poem. He expertly, humorously and quite vividly composes a rapid sequence of images “in the old ways of the jester”.

Édouard Lalo’s does away with a specific theme, and the Spanish tones of his concerto – one of the romantic classics of violoncello – transport us southward. Standing at the podium is Nuno Coelho, one of the most exciting conductors from the younger generation.

PROGRAMME:
Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 80 in D minor, Hob. 1/80
Édouard Lalo: Concerto for violoncello in D minor
Maurice Ravel: "Ma Mère l’Oye", suite for orchestrar
Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Op. 28
