Forest con­cert

Forests have always inspired great works of music – and the wood of many species of tree has provided the material for musical instruments! For this concert, hosted as part of the Staatsphilharmonie’s CO2 initiative, we are transported on a journey through the ecosystems of the world’s woods in the form of images, reports and music. Silke Lichtenberg, a trained violin manufacturer and now a much-consulted expert in sustainability in the field of music-instrument construction, sheds light on this fascinating subject. The woods come alive in the many instruments featuring in this extraordinary concert encompassing works by Antonín Dvořák, Sofia Gubaidulina, Steve Reich and other composers.
