Deutsche Erstaufführung

Hofesh Shechter is considered one of the most exciting exponents of contemporary dance. Following on from his “Disappearing Act” the universal artist returns to the Nürnberger Ballett to stage another of his entrancing pieces. The work he has chosen to present, with an expanded cast for the Nuremberg venue, is his urban-toned “tHE bAD”, an explosion of raw, aggressive step sequences spliced with moments of calmer, trance-like poeticism.

In his extraordinary “Anthem”, commissioned in 2018 by the prestigious São Paulo Companhia de Dança, Goyo Montero deconstructs the unending cycle of life to produce an acutely topical snapshot of a deeply divided society rendered in the form of a powerful ensemble piece. Yet “Anthem” is also a study of the human voice, a choreographed visualisation of its variety and complexity as exemplified by a mantra, a hymn, a lullaby, songs of love and protest and the final breath.

Press reviews
Nürnberger Nachrichten/Nürnberger Zeitung

„An outstanding company; clever, stirring choreographies - and above all: a perfect soundtrack twice over.“

Thomas Heinold, Nürnberger Nachrichten/Nürnberger Zeitung

Bayerischer Rundfunk

„Two very different choreographers, two very different pieces that complement each other in their own way. Dancing at the highest level. Outstanding.“

Christine Weirauch, BR 24

concerti

„Tanz total!

Roland H. Dippel, concerti

Bayerische Staatszeitung

„Two masters of their craft who (...) show what is current and ´state of the art´, what dance can say and trigger when it is brought to the stage in such a sophisticated way. (...) an ingenious lighting design that conjures up atmosphere, unusual costumes, precisely matching and emotional music that triggers the choreographies and drives them in the desired direction - and above all dancers who move technically at the highest level and who give everything to embody the choreographic signatures with passion and ecstasy.“

Renate Baumiller-Guggenberger, Bayerische Staatszeitung

tanznetz.de

"In the end, one feels visually richly gifted by the excellent dancers. (...) The parallels between Montero's 'Anthem' and Shechter's 'tHE bAD' are striking. Both pieces shine and complement each other like two sides of the same coin. You can't get enough of that!"

Vesna Mlakar, tanznetz.de

Der Opernfreund

„Riesenapplaus für zwei packende Choreografien und ein fantastisch gutes Ensemble.“

Frank Piontek, Der Opernfreund
