A concert as part of the “Talestri: Gender and Emotional Release in Opera” symposium
Maria Antonia Walpurgis was born into the House of Wittelsbach and became Electress of Saxony by marriage. Munich and Dresden, the two cities where she divided her time, are reflected in this Querformat event. Music by Gluck was played at her wedding and she studied under Hasse and Porpora in Dresden, where Johann Gottlieb Naumann was court kapellmeister. Wolfgang Katschner explores the musical world of the composer of “Talestri”.
