Libretto by Salvadore Cammarano and Leone Emmanuele Bardare

In Italian with German and English surtitles

Leonora, a lady of gentle birth, has fallen in love with Manrico, a soldier she knows hardly anything about and who’s given to serenading her. Manrico is the son of Azucena - or is he the missing son of the old Count Luna? Azucena tells gruesome stories about her mother, who was burned to death, and her son, whom she herself accidentally threw into the fire. Manrico can't escape his family history. His love for Leonora founders on account of his rival, the young Count Luna, who’s doing everything he can to possess Leonora himself. Blind love and raging hatred are the demons that bring doom and gloom to the world in Verdi's “Troubadour”.

Press reviews
