3rd “Meistersinger von Nürnberg” Singing Competition
01.00 PM - 08.30 PM
Eighty singers from the original 500 applicants who submitted entries to the international “Meistersinger von Nürnberg” Singing Competition were shortlisted and invited to take part in the finals in Nuremberg. Join the jury members as they listen to all 80 singers in the preliminary rounds in the Opernhaus, with the best 20 going forward to the semi-final on 25th July 2022.
Conceived and hosted by the Staatstheater Nürnberg, the international “Meistersinger von Nürnberg” Singing Competition has been held every two years since 2016 in the original city of the master singers. Sustained and funded entirely by sponsors, supporters and art patrons, the international competition is aimed at young singers who already have professional experience or are enrolled at a school of music.
The aim of the competition is to promote the artistic expression and careers of young singers. It also gives intendants and directors of opera an opportunity to survey new talent. The jury is headed by noted Wagner tenor Prof. Siegfried Jerusalem and is made up of international opera experts.
In 2022 a special prize is also being awarded for alto and bass voices respectively. The forum for young singers wanting to make their mark as dramatic voices is being continued. The heats, the semi-final, the grand finale accompanied by the Staatsphilharmonie and the awards ceremony will be held in the Opernhaus and the public can attend free of charge. In a collaboration with the Culture department of the mayor’s office, the event will be rounded off on 28th July 2022 on the Hauptmarkt with a free open-air concert featuring all prize winners.
