Das Wort „Serenade“ hat eine wunderbare Doppelbedeutung: In ihm steckt sowohl „sera“ (Abend) als auch „sereno“ (heiter). Drei bekannte Stücke dieser Gattung sind zu hören: Benjamin Brittens Serenade für Tenor, Horn und Streicher, die Streicherserenade von Peter Tschaikowsky und Mozarts „Kleine Nachtmusik“.
