Preston McBain was born in Sudbury, Canada. He received his training at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada as well as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. His professional career as a dancer led him to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company (2000-2002), Ballet Jörgen Canada (2002-2011), and finally to the Royal Swedish Ballet (2011-2022), where he ended his dancer career in June 2022. He has also made guest appearances with the project company Pro Arte Danza and the Banff Festival Ballet in Toronto. Preston McBain embodied solo parts as well as leading roles in the great classical ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Giselle among others. He has worked with choreographers such as Maurice Bejart, Jiří Kylian, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Alexander Ekman, Sharon Eyal, Gioconda Barbuto, Stijn Celis, Mavin Khoo, Kevin O'Day, Lukáš Timulak and others. As a guest teacher, he has worked with companies such as the Joffrey Ballet, State Ballet of Georgia, Royal Swedish Ballet, Ohio Ballet, Ballett Dortmund, Aalto Ballett Essen, Ballet Jörgen Canada and Ballett am Rhein. Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman has commissioned him as ballet master for the rehearsals of various works for the Royal Swedish Ballet, Joffrey Ballet and Ballett Dortmund ("Midsummer Night's Dream", "Cacti", "Shift"). He studied "Pinocchio" for Pär Isberg at the State Ballet of Georgia and "Cppelia" for Bengt Jörgen at the Ohio Ballet. As of the 2022/23 season, Preston McBain is engaged as Rehearsal Director at the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett.
