The Australian started ballet at the age of three at the Van Loon Dance Academy in Sydney. Her childhood training included the styles of classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, hip hop and tap dancing. Over the years, she specialized in classical training combined with contemporary dance. In 2015 she trained at the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy. From 2014 to 2016 Laura van Loon was selected for the Australian Ballet School’s Interstate training program. In 2017 she danced at the Royal Ballet School Antwerp in Belgium. Already during her apprenticeship she was very successful in numerous competitions. Among others she was selected to represent Australia at the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition, where she was finally awarded six prizes for her versatility and strengths in both classical ballet and contemporary dance. There she won several scholarships, including for the Ballet School Theater Basel, for a summer intensive course at the English National Ballet and for a scholarship at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera. In 2018 she was selected by the Royal Ballet School Antwerp as the school's female representative to take part in the Prix De Lausanne. There she met the choreographer Goyo Montero in his creation “Pulse”. Laura van Loon has been a member of the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett since the season 2019/2020.
