Born in Madrid, Spain, Curt Allen Wilmer was trained as a stage and costume designer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. During his studies from 1987 to 1992, he worked as an assistant to various stage designers such as Filipo Sanjust, Reinhard Heinrich or Peer Boysen at different opera houses around the world. As a freelance set and costume designer he started at the Augsburg Theater, where he created his first set for the ballet "Diaghilev". In 1992 he returned to Spain, where he worked as a freelance set designer for theater, film and television. In 1994 he was hired as house set designer and technical director for the opening of a new theater in Madrid under the direction of José Luis Gómez. From 1998 to 2008 he worked as an art director for the design agency Acciona Producciones y Diseño in Seville, where he did design work for various productions and projects, such as sets for large events, museums and exhibitions, and interiors for hotels and shopping malls. From 1998 to 2008 he worked as an art director for the design agency Acciona Producciones y Diseño in Seville, where he did design work for various productions and projects, such as sets for large events, museums and exhibitions, and interiors for hotels and shopping malls. He has also designed for trade shows and theme parks (Warner, Disney), for which he has also won awards. In 2008 he founded his own studio ("EstudiodeDos") with architect Leticia Gañan. He has since designed sets for renowned Spanish directors such as José Luis Gómez, Gerardo Vera, Ernesto Caballero, Andrés Lima, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Joan Font, José Pascual, Juan Carlos Rubio, Antonio Álamo and Yayo Cáceres. He has had a regular collaboration with choreographer Johan Inger since 2015. He has received numerous awards for his stage and costume designs in recent years. Since 2012 Curt Allen Wilmer is director and lecturer for the Master of Scenography at IED Madrid (Istituto Europeo di Design).
