CHILDREN’S OPERA CHOIR
Children and young people rehearse once a week on the Staatstheater’s rehearsal stages. They receive vocal training and gain experience in stagecraft. The more than 70 singers of the Children’s Opera Choir perform on the opera stage in productions such as Hänsel und Gretel, Werther and Tosca. A Christmas sing-along programme takes them to the Gustav-Adolf-Gedächtniskirche and to the “Adler Birthday” event at the DB Museum. We happily welcome new singers at the start of each season.

Children six years of age and older have fun while finding their voices, singing together and exploring the world of theatre.
YOUTH OPERA CHOIR
The youth opera "Ein Fall für Figaro" is returning to the Opernhaus stage this autumn. Figaro’s friends, played and sung by our project ensemble in the Youth Opera Choir, will also be there. They already immersed themselves in the 1950s during the 2025/26 season in Christian Brey’s production, and are now stirring up quite a commotion in Bert O. Müller’s hair salon.

With a selection of Christmas songs, the Children’s Opera Choir explores two exciting locations in the city: At the DB Museum for the “Adler Birthday” and at the charity concert in the Vesperkirche, the audience is warmly invited to sing along as always.
STIMMEN DER ZUKUNFT: WELTSPRACHE MUSIK

Can we communicate through music? Is there a musical world language? With 20 classes and in over 60 workshops, we are off to search for answers. Primary schoolers and their teachers learn songs and melodies from around the world, alongside a musical education team from the Staatstheater and the Nürnberger Musikschule.

THEATER UND GESCHICHTE(N)

Together with schools, the Dokumentationszentrum, the BR, Geschichte für alle e. V., contemporary witnesses and playwright Thomas Perle, we head to the city archive and look for places in Nuremberg that provide insight into the lives of queer individuals during the National Socialist era. We analyse the thoughts, logic and mechanisms used to criminalise homosexuality under the Nazi regime and that led to extermination in concentration camps. How does queer life continue into the future? In the “International Weeks against Racism,” we present our findings in the form of readings and performances in the Kammerspiele, and seek to establish a link to modern, intersectional anti-queer discrimination.

With youths who left their home five years ago

After 24 February 2022, the director of the Deutsches Theater Kyiv Svitlana Mykhailenko and a group of youths came to Nuremberg to escape the war. They soon found an artistic opportunity at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and subsequently sang alongside Lisa Milyukova in the Children’s and Youth Choir. This resulted in increasing new projects and friendships. Nobody knew at the time that this temporary situation would turn into a years-long stay. By now, the young people from Ukraine have firmly settled into schools and vocational training programs. After five years, it is time to pause and ask how these young people have experienced this pivotal phase of their lives and how they view their future.

Acting, inventing stories, improvising, and trying out new roles—we do all this and much more in the Youth Club at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. A utopia is an ideal society. What might that look like? Together, we playfully set out in search of these ideal worlds and discover whether everything within them is truly so perfect.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX (SALT-N-PEPA)

“... and all the good things and the bad things.” This song quote is meant to whet your appetite for exploring one of the most fascinating topics in world history through play. The questions are endless. Chaos in the head, heart, and body—everything is individual yet the same, though not too much the same, because then it gets weird.
Approaches are diverse—much like words and movements—whether queer or not. Painting images, stepping into roles, breaking down stereotypes: This is what theatre can do. Throughout the season, young people aged 16 to 21 will work in weekly rehearsals to create a piece centred on the diversity of bodies and love. The group is led by JJ Herdegen (they/them) and Eva-Maria Kallnischkies (she/her).

Theatre Youth Club (16+)
Presentation: Segment #16, Kongresshalle
In 2027, the photography community will present its latest exhibition in Segment #16 of the Kongresshalle. Young people from the Theatre Youth Club will be the first to view the photographs and engage in a deeply personal exchange. Through a form of scenic image description, they will explore one of their favourite subjects as part of a creative writing process.
„LASS MICH AUCH DEN LÖWEN SPIELEN!“
Improvisation group (15+), Saturdays 14:00–16:00
The setting? Beach! The people? Non-swimmers! Then a few ideas are added to the mix, and the playing begins. It requires some preparation—which is quickly learned—and leads to the creation of new stories time and again over the course of two hours. Young people can regularly improvise on the theatre’s rehearsal stages and try out new roles. The group is led by director and theatre educator Svitlana Mykhailenko.
Ballet
IDEA IN ACTION
Public rehearsals, participative opportunities like the youth project “Die Welt klingt bunt” with blind and visually impaired children, public training, interventions in public spaces and other art institutions make “Idea in Action” a living network of junior performers, professionals and city society.
CONCERT
JUNGE STAATSPHILHARMONIE
The Junge Staatsphilharmonie is the youth orchestra of the Staatstheater Nürnberg. Young people from the metro area who want to play classical music can join. The musicians, between 14 and 19 years of age, put together a large symphonic repertoire and, in multiple project phases throughout a season, gain deep insight into the world of orchestra and theatre. The Junge Staatsphilharmonie is supported by numerous orchestra sponsors and musical educator Irina Roosz.
KONZERT DER JUNGEN STAATSPHILHARMONIE

Conductor: Christopher Schumann
Under the direction of Kapellmeister Christopher Schumann, the young musicians present, among others, the Double Concerto for Harp and Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with former members of the orchestra as soloists, as well as The Noon Witch by Antonín Dvořák at the Opernhaus. The event will be hosted by students from Labenwolf-Gymnasium as part of a project seminar.
MEHR MUSIK: BANDS AND FRIENDS

Rock, pop and jazz are on the programme for this year’s “Mehr Musik.” Children, young people and adults from the Nürnberger Musikschule play their favourite music in various bands. Like every year, our concept brings them together with other ensembles and musicians from the music school family—true to the motto "Bands and Friends."
