Welcome to the Staatstheater Nürnberg! You certainly have a lot of questions about your first time visiting us. We have answers for you here!
You can visit all Staatstheater Nürnberg performance venues with public transport, by bike, bar car, and by foot. Our page Getting Here contains all the information you need, including a route planner, parking information, and public transport details. The best part: Your Staatstheater ticket also works as a transport ticket for the VGN region (for one-time roundtrip, valid four hours before the event begins and until the theatre closes). Admission to the theatre is possible as of one hour before the performance. The evening box office and our food service also open one hour before the performance. (Exception: 30 minutes before events in the Gluck-Saal and Children’s Concerts.)
Excitement, curiosity, and your ticket, which you receive via e-mail as a PDF and in Wallet format for your smartphone when purchasing online. If you would like to receive a discounted ticket, we would like to see your proof of discount eligibility (student ID, disability ID, Bayerische Ehrenamtskarte, etc.) at reception.
Please look up in advance, ideally here on the website or in the schedule, when the performance begins and where it will be held. We recommend arriving at least half an hour before the performance begins so that you are not put under too much stress. The event begins right at its specified time. Later admission to the seating area is only allowed in exceptional cases and at appropriate locations so that the performance is not disrupted.
We do not have a dress code. How stylish you want to be for the special occasion is up to you!
Heavy jackets, coats, large bags, and backpacks must be handed over to the coat check before the performance for security reasons. This is a free service.
Please do not bring these! Our bars in the foyer serve beverages and small snacks before and after the performance, and during the intermission. Tip: If you order food and drinks in advance, you do not have to queue and also have a larger selection to choose from.
Intermissions are usually listed in the schedule on the website and on your ticket. If you want to be certain, feel free to ask our Visitor Service.
Applause is an important sign of appreciation for the artists on stage in theatre and concert settings. Everyone involved in the piece is happy to be applauded when a piece ends, such as right before the intermission and, of course, at the end of the performance. The audience generally does not clap during a performance so as not to interrupt the scene. In operas and concerts, applause can be appropriate after particularly impressive musica l moments. If you are unsure, simply follow the rest of the audience and show your appreciation silently!
Please turn off your smartphone or set it into airplane mode during the performance! Constantly looking at your phone disrupts the artists on stage (they do see it) as well as the audience members sitting near you. It is a matter of respect and copyright, so do not take photos or videos during the performance. However, you can do so before and after the event, during the final applause, and during the intermission. We are happy when you share your enthusiasm and tag the Staatstheater in your social media posts online!
The schedule on our website contains interesting extra materials for every event. You can find the programme, photos, videos, and more. If you would like to explore more, take a look in our Digitaler Fundus, where you will find backstage videos, interviews with the artists, and much more exciting content. Before each performance, there is also a live introduction to the work at the theatre in which someone from the team explains what the audience is about to see and hear.
People can experience sensitive subject matter, loud gunshots, or bright lighting effects in different ways. We inform you online on the respective page for the performance in the schedule if it contains such material. You can find an overview with the corresponding information and age recommendations for your visit here.
We wish you an unforgettable visit to our theatre!
