Tann­häu­ser und der Sän­ger­krieg auf Wart­burg

Tannhäuser does not wish to decide: He wants to enjoy the ecstatic rush of the senses in the Venusberg and participate in the community of the Meistersinger. In his Romantic opera, Richard Wagner combines ancient mythology, the saga of the Sängerkrieg singing contest and saintly legend to tell the story of an individual torn between longings on his search for his place in society.

Wagner himself continuously revised Tannhäuser and produced different versions. The Viennese version from 1875 is being performed at the Staatstheater Nürnberg.
