Ri­go­let­to

The Duke of Mantua can do whatever he pleases. He takes any woman who catches his eye. His court jester Rigoletto assists him and mocks anyone who dares to object. Yet, when the Duke falls in love with Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda, the loyal servant turns against him. Desperate and in vain, Rigoletto tries to hide Gilda from the Duke. Upon learning that Gilda and the Duke have long since become lovers, he sends a hired killer after his lord. However, he does not know what Gilda is capable of. Verdi descends far into the human soul and creates a morality play without a moral, a parable about human frailty and its devastating consequences.
