Mussorgsky’s piano cycle – whose timbres Maurice Ravel later arranged for orchestra—brings music and painting together and stands as perhaps the most famous attempt to transform images into sound. The young conductor Aurel Dawidiuk, a rising star of the German classical music scene, will lead Mozart’s early, innovative concerto from the solo piano. Prior to this, he will conduct the spirited string piece Orawa by the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, who drives minimalist patterns toward a tremendous sonic and virtuosic crescendo, musically depicting a river in the Tatra Mountains.

Wojciech Kilar: Orawa
