Beet­ho­ven - Schosta­ko­witsch - Rein­ve­re

Estonian poet and composer Jüri Reinvere asks in his orchestral works what makes, in his eyes, a fulfilled human life: energy, spirituality, harmony with nature, art. Beethoven was the first great composer to give space to extramusical experiences in his work. The famous strokes at the beginning of his 5th Symphony depict fate knocking on mankind’s door. Shostakovich’s 1st Violin Concerto also became a fateful work for the composer: His turn toward Jewish folk music and a Soviet cultural policy campaign prevented a premiere for years.
