Rarely has the mutual respect between Haydn and Mozart been so clear than in Haydn's 95 and Mozart's last symphony. Both start out serious and in a minor key before working their way toward radiant finales. Composed three years apart, these pieces are milestones in Viennese Classical and modern music of the late 18th century.

Maximilian Hornung, the artist-in-residence for the 2025/26 season, is the soloist in Shostakovich's cello concerto in which the composer was finally able to play with sophisticated composition techniques after Stalin's death, creating a rhythm-heavy and highly varied solo concerto.

PROGRAMME:
Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 95
Dmitri Shostakovich: Cello Concerto No. 1
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 41 (Jupiter)
