Happy Bir­th­day

In France, birth is known as a "rite de passage", or a right of passage. A birth is the most natural thing in the world, and perhaps the greatest miracle of all. Of course, how we are born is what makes the difference.

40 per cent of birth clinics in Germany have been closed since 1991. A delivery nurse on average tends to two to four women in parallel during birth. Delivery nurses also suffer from long shifts, commutes and personal liability risk. In spite of this, there are people, especially women, who choose this path for themselves. They do it as a care profession, as back-breaking work, out of their love for life. Director Malika Scheller dedicates a performance to these women and respectfully, tenderly and humorously describes how different the start to life can look for everyone.
