To this day, Mendelssohn is considered an outstanding musical prodigy. The masterworks he created in his youth include his first string quintet, which he composed at the age of 15. In contrast, Bartók’s trio Contrasts was composed later in life. This piece is inspired by melodies from Bartók’s native Hungary, sounds that he knew from childhood. Reger’s clarinet quintet was his last composition, and includes homages to his great role models Mozart and Brahms as well as Reger’s own polished and masterful harmonics.

PROGRAMME:
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: String Quintet No. 1 in A major, Op. 18
Béla Bartók: Contrasts, for clarinet, violin and piano
Max Reger: Clarinet Quintet in A major, Op. 146
