tuba c Michaela Schneider

The tuba is the instrument of the year for 2024. This initiative by the German Music Council’s member associations seeks to place brass instruments further in the spotlight. This is precisely what Matthias Raggl, tuba player for the Staatsphilharmonie and member of the Tuba Team Bayern will do at the 2nd Chamber Concert. Original solo compositions by Mike Forbes and James Meador, as well as a baroque cello sonata rearranged for the tuba and marimba, will showcase the versatility of the orchestra’s latest instrument. The programme includes works for tuba quartets and the “Konsertant Svit” by Christer Danielsson for solo tuba and brass quartet. All manner of playing techniques, such as beatboxing and multiphonics, will be on display. The tuba: virtuosic, exuberant, velvety and delicate.
