Staatsphilharmonie percussionists are the key players in this concert, firstly in quartet form with “Motus II”, the group around Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür. In André Jolivet’s “Suite en concert” percussion instruments are juxtaposed with a piece for solo flute. And the evening is rounded off with one of the greatest works of the 20th century: Dmitri Shostakovich’s 15th Symphony in the version for piano trio and percussion section. Arranger Viktor Derevianko was one of the pianists who was assigned to perform a version of the symphony for two pianos before the Composers Association prior to the premiere – not even the great Shostakovich was spared this indignity.

PROGRAMME:
Erkki-Sven Tüür: Motus II for four percussionists
André Jolivet: Suite en concert pour flûte et percussion (1965)
Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 15, op. 141a, version for violins, violoncello, piano (celesta) and 13 percussion instruments by Victor Derevianko
