Underpinning the “CyberRäuber – Theater der virtuellen Realität” Collective are artists Marcel Karnapke and Björn Lengers and the firm conviction that theatre and virtual reality need each other and can both profit from the relationship. For years the pair have been exploring the overlap between the two worlds, experimenting with ideas and seeing a bright future filled with possibilities.

Their latest XRT work ventures into the domain of physical theatre in digital form. People have an increasing tendency to video their movements, capturing them in pixels. A person raises his or her arm and the digitised copy does the same in real time. They are in motion on two different levels and in two different spheres simultaneously. So, how is a given movement transformed by being freed from the rules of physics? Faced with all the things we can get a non-physical body to do, what effect does this have on a “real” body made of flesh and blood?
