with works by Wagner, Beethoven and Mussorgsky
There could hardly be a more fitting start to our festival marking the centenary of the Staatsphilharmonie. We present the famous overture to Wagner’s Nuremberg-based opera, the piece that so precisely and memorably introduces and anticipates his lengthy comedy. The orchestra in Beethoven’s romantic composition provides a tasteful framework for the sensibility of the violin. And Mussorgsky was inspired by a gallery visit to write a cycle of piano works, whose orchestral version has long been regarded as a repertoire classic. The ten pieces rendered by the orchestra in a panoply of colour and inflections.
PROGRAMME:
Richard Wagner: Vorspiel zu „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“
Ludwig van Beethoven: Romanze F-Dur op. 50 (Solo-Violine: Alma Keilhack)
Modest Mussorgsky: Bilder einer Ausstellung
