Fukushima marks a turning point in German energy policy. The facts seem clear: nothing is going to thwart the nuclear phase-out - but that’s a very German attitude towards a global political issue. First and foremost, Fukushima is a real place with very real people, all with their own personal destinies. Award-winning author Nis-Momme Stockmann has been to the area several times since the disaster. Jan-Christoph Gockel, Principal Director at the Munich Kammerspiele since last season, draws on his travels and research around the globe to produce playful, political, energy-themed drama. For the Staatstheater Nürnberg the pair are re-examining a location where not only do the tiniest of particles contain unimaginable energy but also a local catastrophe is in the process of being overlooked amidst a multitude of global perspectives.
