Libretto by Felice Romani after Eugène Scribe

In Italian with German and English surtitles

Nemorino discovers “una furtiva lagrima” in the corner of his beloved Adina’s eye, a furtive tear that gives him hope that the rich landowner is not as hard-hearted as she would have people believe. Luckily, he just has enough money to buy a love potion from the dubious quack, Dulcamara, an elixir that is supposed to confer irresistible charm on him. The charm of Donizetti’s “L'elisir d'amore” lies in the juxtaposition of hilarious and delicately romantic scenes, in the constant alternation of perspectives and moods, all held together by the melodic richness of Donizetti’s bel canto music, reason enough for the ongoing success of this opera.

Nürnberger Nachrichten

„Donizettis „Der Liebestrank“ nimmt im Opernhaus das Kennenlernen per Social Media auf die Schippe.“

„(…) zwei Stunden beste musikalische Unterhaltung (…)“

Herbert Heinzelmann, Nürnberger Nachrichten

O-Ton

Bravo.“

Roland Dippel, Donaukurier
