Der gebürtige Taiwanese studierte Tanz an der National University of the Arts Taipei und der Hong Kong Academy for The Performing Arts. Neben Ballett und zeitgenössischem Tanz ist Shawn Wu auch in chinesischem Tanz, Akrobatik und Martial Arts ausgebildet. Und schon während seines Studiums erhielt er zahlreiche Auszeichnungen: Gold bei den Taiwan Grand Prix IBC im Jahr 2016 und 2017 sowie Stipendien für die Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional Lisboa und die Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet New York. Nach zwei Jahren Studium in Hong Kong holte Tanzchef Kinsun Chan Shawn Wu als Solist an das Theater St.Gallen. Mit der Spielzeit 2020/21 wechselte Shawn Wu ans Theaterhaus zu Gauthier Dance.
