Only recently has the public perception of Alan Turing been revised and shown him to be a tragic hero of the 20th century. Turing, the mathematician who paved the way for the invention of the computer, who cracked the German codes and was instrumental in determining the outcome of the Second World War – before being driven to commit suicide on account of his homosexuality. In his latest opera Anno Schreier relates the story of the difficult rise and undeserved fall of a genius who never felt at home in a world that he helped to save.
